Growing out platinum blonde more subtly?

I recently bleached my hair platinum blonde, but it was still very yellow so I then applied a dye over the top. However, I failed to notice the dye was extra lightening and now my colour looks fake and is wig like, and my hair is far to damaged to keep dying, so I want to grow it out. I am naturally a dirty blonde, nearer ash blonde than mousy brown, but don't know if applying a dye will make it easier to grow out? I would go to a professional but I'm not sure I can face it. Help?!
