Is firefighting an enjoyable career? Can you make good money doing it? What is a fireman's life like?

If you like to be on call 24/7 and you like to fight fires. I think they make decent money. I knew a fire fighter and he was ALWAYS working he worked so much he hadnt taken a vacation in years. He LOVED his job though.
