Can anyone explain the ending of 'A Clockwork Orange' (the 1971 american movie)?

I just watched it and the end confused me. What I THINK is supposed to happen is that Alex is back to his original pre-operation state, and goes on with his life to the job that the minister was talking about and we make our own umptions from there on as to whether or not he goes back to crime.
